Being a nurse at CDHB isn’t only about patient care, with a nursing qualification there are a lot of different roles on offer. Below are just a few descriptions of some of the Nursing roles offered at CHDB.
The Charge Midwife Manager (CMM) co-ordinates midwifery activity at the ward/unit level, facilitating and promoting excellence in midwifery care by providing leadership, support, respect, clinical supervision and mentoring within the midwifery team. In addition the CMM is responsible for fiscal activity in their ward area.
Co-ordinates nursing activity at the ward/unit level, facilitating and promoting excellence in nursing care by providing leadership, support, respect, clinical supervision and mentoring within the nursing team. In addition they are responsible for fiscal activity in their ward area.
Senior nurse with advanced clinical skills who is responsible for co-ordinating a busy ward/unit on a shift by shift basis.
Senior clinical midwife responsible for co-ordinating the birthing suite on a shift by shift basis. Shows advanced clinical skills and demonstrates the ability to manage a busy tertiary unit. Working with the multi disciplinary team and access agreement holders to provide high quality care for women and babies.
Provides a comprehensive education plan for staff. Facilitates the orientation of new staff.
Promotes excellence in clinical nursing practice within the speciality work area.
Nurse Assistants assist registered nurses to deliver nursing care to individuals in community, residential and hospital settings.
Responsible for non nursing duties related to the maintenance of a safe environment conducive to the delivery of quality patient care. Works in conjunction with the health care team to meet the needs of the patient and family.
Provision of education to all staff and support to women at Christchurch Women’s Hospital. Lactation Consultants are also accredited with BFHI (Baby friendly hospital initiative).
Provides a comprehensive education plan for staff. Facilitate among others the orientation of new staff and new midwifery graduate programme.
Registered Nurses utilise nursing knowledge and complex nursing judgement to assess health needs and provide care, and to advise and support people to manage their health.
