About us

At CDHB we value care and respect for others, integrity in all we do, and responsibility for outcomes. Our vision is to promote, enhance and facilitate the health and wellbeing of the people of Canterbury. Our goals are linked to our values and vision and are aimed at continuous improvement in all areas, including: safety, systems and processes, our practices, relationships and partnerships and the health of our communities.

Working here means you will be working with the largest employer in the South Island, and one of the biggest District Health Boards in New Zealand. Across 14 hospitals from Kaikoura in the north, to Ashburton in the south, we employ around 8,300 people.

The CDHB has overall responsibility for working within the funding allocated by Government, to improve, promote and protect the health and independence of all the people living in the Canterbury district. Our motivation is to do the very best we can to ensure our community gets the best services and outcomes we can deliver. We work closely with our community to decide what health and disability services are needed and how best to use the funding we receive.

The CDHB through the Hospital and Specialist Services provides acute and scheduled secondary and tertiary level surgical and medical services, women’s health services, mental health services, physical disability/mobility/rehabilitation services and a range of clinical support services. CDHB encompasses both rural, Ashburton and Community Health Services which undertake community focused activities in addition to secondary care services.

A career with us means working for an organisation committed to providing the best health care possible to the people of Canterbury. Opportunities exist for career development, and you will gain extensive experience in a fantastic variety of settings.
