CDHB Medical & Dental career paths

In line with the Australasian Colleges, we offer a well-structured career path from House Officers through to completion of the speciality and becoming a Specialist.

After graduating you can apply to be a House Officer at the CDHB, which will mean completing two years of rotations through different areas of the hospital. The rotations are called ‘runs’ and last three months. While on rotation you will usually decide which area you wish to specialise in.

After at least two years of being a House Officer, you can apply for a job as a Registrar and enter into a training programme. Entry into some training programmes is competitive and you may stay working as House Officer until you gain entry into your preferred specialty training.
