Akaroa Hospital
Akaroa Hospital is nestled in the heart of an ancient volcano located an hour and a half drive from Christchurch on the stunning Banks Peninsula. The drive through the quaint French colonial village will lead you to the Hospital which is situated high enough on the hill to provide views of the bush clad hills and sparkling harbour.
Akaroa Hospital is an accredited facility providing medical, surgical rehabilitation, carer support and maternity services. Other services include day patient care and physiotherapy. Local GP’s provide Accident and Emergency services.
Ashburton Hospital
Ashburton Hospital is an accredited hospital based in a busy rural community in an attractive environment away from the pressures of city living. The scenery in the area is splendid and will offer you many opportunities to pursue variety of outdoor activities, from hot air ballooning to fly fishing, or simply relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere in one of the local cafés.
Burwood Hospital
Burwood Hospital is situated in the northeast of Christchurch in beautiful surroundings ideal for walking and cycling. Burwood boasts brand-new, state-of-the-art operating theatres and surgical facilities and is the CDHB’s centre of excellence for rehabilitation and elective orthopaedic surgery. As part of The Older Persons Health and Rehabilitation Division, it provides a range of services including elective surgical services, a spinal unit, brain injury rehabilitation service, pain management services and allied health services (inpatient and outpatient).
Burwood is regarded as the most specialised service in New Zealand for spinal patients, treating 60% of the country’s patients with spinal injuries. The Spinal Unit is also involved in leading international research.
Other services provided at Burwood Hospital include the Burwood Birthing Unit, Public Health Nurses, Parafed Canterbury, Low Vision Clinic and Community Paediatric Therapy. The Hospital is also the site of the Alan Bean Centre, the Champion Centre for children with learning disabilities.
Christchurch Hospital
Right in the heart of Christchurch city - on the banks of the Avon River, Christchurch Hospital overlooks the wide open spaces, woodlands and gardens of Hagley Park, and the Botanic Gardens. It is also close to the nearby Arts Centre. Christchurch Hospital is the largest tertiary, teaching and research hospital in the South Island and provides a full range of emergency, acute, elective and outpatient services. Doctors and specialists from here also travel to major centres in the South Island providing specialist clinics and operations. Telemedicine facilities link the hospital with other sites throughout New Zealand. This means very few patients need to leave the South Island to receive treatment.
Many of the clinical staff working in the hospital are involved in international research. Often, they’re engaged in joint projects with medical research scientists at the Christchurch School of Medicine, part of the University of Otago. The School is integrated into the hospital campus.
Christchurch Hospital is the major tertiary teaching hospital in the South Island for the clinical training of doctors, and it is one of the four main teaching hospitals in New Zealand. The examination pass rates for resident medical staff are high, and a range of post-graduate nursing programmes are offered.
Christchurch Womens Hospital
Opened in 2005, the purpose-built Christchurch Women’s Hospital and day surgery unit is situated next to Christchurch Hospital in the centre of Christchurch city. Overlooking Hagley Park and the Botanic Gardens, the surroundings make for a relaxing work environment.
Christchurch Women’s Hospital and Day Surgery unit is an example of the CDHB’s commitment to continually improving the quality of care we provide to the people of Canterbury. The Gynaecology Service provides professional, quality care for the women of Christchurch, greater Canterbury and other centres within the South Island. The services provided cater for acute or non-acute Medical/Surgical Gynaecological conditions, Oncology/Gynaecology treatments including Brachytherapy and Pregnancy conditions (up to 24 weeks gestation). The hospital includes a Birthing Suite, School of Medicine, Neonatal Unit and Maternity Ward.
Darfield Hospital
Darfield is the main town between Christchurch and the West Coast and boasts truly spectacular views of the Southern Alps.
It is an accredited facility, 35 minutes drive from Christchurch on highway 73 to the West Coast via Arthurs Pass. With two local GPs in Darfield, medical services are readily available. The hospital provides medical, surgical rehabilitation, career support, continuing care of the elderly and maternity beds. Other services include day patient facilities, day care, and pregnancy & parenting classes.
Ellesmere Hospital
Ellesmere Hospital is an accredited facility situated 40 minutes drive from Christchurch in the town of Leeston. It provides general medical services, as well as surgical rehabilitation, carer support and continuing care of local elderly. Day care and other community based services are also provided.
Hillmorton Hospital
Hillmorton Hospital offers a wide range of mental health services. These include an acute psychiatric inpatient service, youth specialty services, forensic psychiatric services, alcohol and drug detox unit and psychiatric services for adults with intellectual disability and rehabilitation. Hillmorton Hospital is located on a spacious suburban Christchurch site. Parking is never a problem and childcare facilities are onsite.
Kaikoura Hospital
Kaikoura Hospital is a rural hospital located two and a half hours’ drive from Christchurch which provides a comprehensive range of health services for the local community. It is situated in the heart of the Kaikoura township and offers services including general medicine, rest-home, long-stay beds, maternity and respite care/carer support. Other services include physiotherapy, basic trauma care, day care, x-ray, parenting classes and private medical care is also available on site. The area famous is for its whale watching and nature tours.
Lincoln Hospital
Lincoln township is in the heart of the beautiful Canterbury countryside but still only a 20 minute drive from Christchurch. Situated on the city side of Lincoln township, Lincoln Maternity Hospital is especially convenient for families from all southern suburbs and from throughout the Selwyn District. The hospital is certified to top healthcare standards, providing the assurance of quality service and care and is an accredited baby friendly hospital.
Oxford Hospital
Oxford is a small country town based in a serene rural setting. The Hospital was built in 1920 as a maternity and general hospital. It currently provides a variety of health services for the local community and surrounding districts. Services include general medical care, long stay care, respite care, needs assessment and service coordination, outpatients, and day care. The hospital is situated in a restful, rural setting with glorious mountain views and has a welcoming atmosphere with caring staff.
Rangiora Hospital
Rangiora is a large semi-rural town in North Canterbury, only 20 minutes’ drive from Christchurch. The lively town has great cafés, shopping and parks to explore. Rangiora is home to locally made cheese and wines, and the surrounding lush farmlands mean you’ll enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the rural lifestyle.
Rangiora Hospital provides a superb level of maternity services. Combine this with a peaceful country setting and a friendly home-away-from-home atmosphere, you will find it an excellent environment to work in.
The Princess Margaret Hospital
The Princess Margaret Hospital is nestled at the base of the Port Hills, beside the Heathcote River and is the major centre in Christchurch for specialist Older Persons’ Health Services. These include assessment, treatment & rehabilitation services, and psychiatric services for the elderly inpatient services. Two 'day hospitals' provide support for people living in the community.
The Princess Margaret Hospital is the base for teams who visit older people in the community and carry out assessment of their health to determine what support they need to make it possible for them to remain in their own homes.
A number of inpatient, outpatient and day-patient Mental Health services are provided at The Princess Margaret Hospital site. Inpatient services include the Rehabilitation Service (Seager Clinic), which offers extensive care for people with significant disorders arising from psychiatric illness and who require intensive support.
We also provide services to those with eating disorders, to mothers and babies and to child and family inpatients.
Our Youth and Adolescent Inpatient Unit is a service for disturbed youngsters requiring intensive inpatient care, usually for only a short time. Psychiatric Needs Assessments are carried out in the community by teams based at the Hospital.
Tuarangi Home
Tuarangi Home is an accredited facility and dedicated, specialised home providing continuing nursing care for the elderly. Located centrally in the rural town of Ashburton the scenery is remarkable, and offers a tremendous range of leisure activities.
Services offered at Tuarangi Home include medical, podiatry, speech language therapy, and occupational therapy activities. Patients also have access to services through Ashburton Hospital.
Waikari Hospital
Waikari is a pleasant rural township with stunning views of the Puketeraki and Kaikoura ranges, with a hospital that meets the needs of the local community as well as covering a large rural district.
